Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, Texas- It took three shots and 53 seconds for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (31-27-7) to put away the Laredo Bucks (25-37-3) on their way to a 8-2 victory Saturday night at the State Farm Arena. The win combined with a Tulsa loss secured the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference for the Bees.

Aaron Lee, Brady Leavold, Dan Gendur, Kirill Startsev, and Jason Dixon had multi-point games for the Bees and goaltender Wylie Rogers made 22 saves in the win.

Knowing that the rival Bucks would have loved nothing more than to spoil their playoff chances the Bees struck early and often.

Leading goal scorer Lee got the party started 1:28 in the game when pass deflected to the back of the net for his 37th of the year, 19 seconds later Dan Gendur found the back of the net to put the Bees up by two. Gendur would top off the best 53 seconds on the game when he scored his second of the game thanks to a nice feed from Zac Pearson.

Laredo would get one back before the end of the first but the Bucks would only find the back of the back of the net once more after the game was long out of reach.

When the Bees returned to the ice for the second period they made sure that Laredo would not find a way out of the hole they dug. Two goals from Dixon and one from Leavold made it 6-1 and allowed the Bees to cruise for the rest of the night.

Kirill Startsev would add two more in the third period while Rogers finished off the 7-2 victory.

The Bees will welcome the Bucks back for the final game of the regular season tomorrow night puck drop is at 7:30 pm. After that the Bees will make their way to Wichita to face the top seeded Thunder.
