Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks and Tulsa Oilers put on quite a show Saturday night at Independence Events Center, with the Mavs skating to a 5-4 win in their final home game of the season. Sebastien Thinel broke the Mavs single season record for points and the two teams combined for 45 penalty minutes and two Tulsa ejections alone in the second period. The Mavs now travel to Tulsa tomorrow afternoon to close out the regular season.

Tulsa scored nine minutes into regulation on a goal from the slot by Marty Standish. The Mavs responded just over a minute later with a goal from Patrick Schafer. Ryan Jardine assisted on the goal. The Oilers regained the lead with five minutes to go in the period and took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The first five minutes of the second period were filled with controversy, as Andrew Courtney was head-checked by Sean Erickson. Brad Good retaliated and dropped the gloves with Erickson. Good received a five minute major for fighting, two minutes for instigating and a 10-minute misconduct penalty, but Erickson drew the brunt of punishment, receiving a game misconduct for attempt to injure. Tulsa Head Coach Bruce Ramsay was ejected from the game for abuse of an official.

The Oilers doubled their lead to two goals halfway through the period on a goal from Dylan Clarke. The Mavericks erased the two-goal deficit in the final three minutes of the period on Patrick Schafer's second goal of the game and a goal with 15 seconds left in the period from Andrew Courtney. The Mavs and Oilers headed to the third period tied 3-3.

The Mavericks jumped on the Oilers early in the second getting goals from John-Scott Dickson and Brandon Smith in the first three minutes of the period. Tulsa responded shortly after, getting a goal from David Solway, bringing the score to 5-4. The Mavs held off a late surge by Tulsa and held on for the 5-4 victory, closing out their regular season home schedule with a victory.

Sebastien Thinel collected two assists in the victory, bringing his season total for points to 80, breaking Jeff Christian's franchise record for points in a season set during the Mavs' 2009-10 inaugural season.
