Trenton, NJ- Facing elimination, the Thunder could not overcome ten Curve hits and were only able to score two runs as they fell to Altoona 5-2 in Game Four of the Eastern League Championship Series on Saturday night. The loss ends the season for Trenton and gives Altoona their first ever Eastern League Championship.
For the first time in the series, the Thunder scored the first run of the game as Matt Cusick led off the bottom of the third inning with a triple off LHP Tony Watson. After Austin Krum grounded out and Justin Snyder struck out, Daniel Brewer came through with an RBI single to drive in Cusick and give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.
After recording a victory in Game Three of the ELDS in New Hampshire, LHP Manuel Banuelos made the start for the Thunder and ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth innings. Altoona was able to plate two runs in each frame, including an RBI double by Jim Negrych in the fifth to put the Curve up 4-1 after five innings.
In the seventh inning, Damon Sublett launched a solo home run off Watson to cut Altoona's lead in half and knock the pitcher out of the game. Watson (2-0) struck out a career-high ten in seven innings to earn the deciding victory.
Trenton won game one of the series on Tuesday and Altoona came back taking the next three games to win the 2010 Eastern League Championship title.
