Wichita Thunder News Release

Independence, MO (November 20th) - Ian Lowe's backhand tally at the 9:34 mark of the third period turned out to be the difference, giving Wichita (7-5-2) a 3-2 win over Missouri (4-7-2) Tuesday night at the Independence Events Center. Wichita has won the last six meetings on the road against Missouri and leads the season-series 4-0-0. The Thunder return home tomorrow night to take on the Bloomington Blaze before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Greger Hanson got things started for the Thunder midway through the first period. Just 13 seconds into their first power play, Wichita won an offensive zone face-off, moved the puck around to Hanson in the right circle and unloaded a blast that beat Mike Clemente to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.

Missouri was able to tie the game in the second period with less than four minutes left. Brandon Smith was able to muscle his way into the zone past a Thunder defender and fed a pass across to Jeff Pierce who put it past Torrie Jung. Just 26 later, Wichita re-gained the lead when Chad Painchaud was able to put home a rebound off a shot from Ian Lowe and gave the Thunder a 2-1 advantage.

21 seconds into the third, the Mavericks tied the game at two on a goal from Kellan Tochkin. Wichita would re-gain the lead for good past the halfway point of the third period when Painchaud's centering feed redirected to Lowe two feet in front of the Mavericks net and he slipped a backhand through Clemente for the game-winner.

Painchaud and Lowe each collected two points (1g, 1a) while Hanson scored his seventh of the season. Jung was terrific in net, earning his fourth win of the year and making 24 saves on 26 shots.

Wichita went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Mavericks were 0-for-4.

The Thunder return to action on Wednesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena to take on the Bloomington Blaze at 7:05 p.m . For tickets, call 755-SEAT, visit the INTRUST Bank Arena box office or online at www.selectaseat.com .
