CHL Wichita Thunder

Thunder edge RiverKings, 3-2

March 5, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release

Kyle Bruce scored on a penalty shot with three seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Wichita Thunder over the Mississippi RiverKings 3-2 tonight at the Kansas Coliseum.

Bruce's 13th goal of the season prevented the RiverKings (32-20-3) from leaping into fourth place in the Northern Conference. Instead, they stand even with the Texas Brahmas in points with 67 for fifth position and the Brahmas have a game in hand on them.

The Thunder (18-35-2) got on the board early, thanks to Cedric Bernier's third goal of the season 3:56 into the game. Bernier's twin brother Jonathan would add his third goal of the year 4:09 into the second period to make it 2-0 Thunder.

The RiverKings rallied, though. Ryan Campbell tapped home his 27th of the season at 6:48 of the second to make it 2-1, and Cody Blanshan scored his second of the year with 17 seconds left in the period to tie the game on the power play.

The RiverKings visit the Colorado Eagles on Friday at 8:05 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 7:55 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ.
