McAllen Thunder News Release

HARLINGEN - The McAllen Thunder used a pair of four-run innings to pile up the runs in a 10-8 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on Wednesday at Harlingen Field.

The Thunder (5-3) started the second inning with three-straight singles against WhiteWings (5-3) starter Chase Davenport (0-1). One out later, Wilson Batista hit his second home run of the season to make it 4-0.

Yaibel Tamayo led off the top of the fifth with a double. One out later, Ramon Sanchez came in and issued a pair of walks to load the bases. Derek Marshall hit a sacrifice fly, on which all three runners advanced, prompting an intentional walk to reload the bases. Dan Coury drew a walk to force-in a run and Batista hit a two-run single to make it 8-2.

The Thunder added twos run in the top of the sixth in an inning that featured one hit, three walks, one error and two wild pitches.

That was enough to make a winner of Kurt Houck (1-0), who only allowed two runs on two hits, a pair of RBI-doubles by David Peralta, through the first five and two-thirds innings, before giving up a three-run home run to Edgar Trejo. Houck struck out seven in six innings.

The WhiteWings rallied in the seventh, scoring two runs and bringing Peralta up as the tying run with one out, but Welington Dotel was caught stealing and Peralta popped out with the score 10-7.

The WhiteWings put runners on the corners in the eighth and Leo Delgadoscored on a wild pitch as the WhiteWings climbed within two.

Luis Matamoros pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save.

The WhiteWings welcome the Edinburg Roadrunners to Harlingen Field for the first game of a four-game series on Thirsty Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Fans can purchase draft beers and cans of soda for $1 as well as bottles of beer and water for $2 each. Right-hander Alexander Concepcion (1-0, 0.00) is expected to face right-hander Jorge Quintero (0-1, 30.90). Gates open at 6:05.
