Thunder Deals Defenseman Salekin to Cincinnati

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, announced defenseman Mike Salekin has been traded to the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for future considerations.

Salekin, 23, has skated in 22 combined games for the Thunder and Reading Royals this season, posting eight points (4g-4a) and 52 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound defenseman was originally acquired by the Thunder from the Royals on Nov. 24, 2008 and has appeared in 81 career games in the last two seasons, scoring 21 points (8g-13a) while posting 235 penalty minutes.

Last season, Salekin totaled 13 points (4g-9a) and a Roayls-high 183 penalty minutes in 49 games during his rookie campaign. Salekin added two points (1g-1a) and 34 penalty minutes in 11 Kelly Cup Playoff games.

The trade is the second for the Thunder in the last two days, who dealt defenseman Jim Jorgensen to the Phoenix RoadRunners for future considerations after signing defensemen Kenny MacAulay, Daryl Marcoux and veteran Matt O'Dette on Dec. 30 as free agents.

The Thunder returns to play for its next game on Friday, Jan. 2 against the Alaska Aces at 8:15 p.m. from Sullivan Arena, continuing a three-game road series.
