Rapid City Rush News Release
(Wichita, KS) - The Rapid City Rush got out to a hot start on Tuesday night at the INTRUST Bank Arena, taking a 2-0 lead on the Wichita Thunder by the first intermission. However, the Thunder rattled off five straight goals, including two from RG Flath, en route to a 5-2 decision on home ice. The Rush now have two days off before facing the Fort Worth Brahmas this Friday at 6:35pm MST. The game can be heard live on the flagship station for Rush hockey, 100.3 the FOX or foxradio.com.
Less than three minutes into the game, Justin Faryna's hard work got the scoring started for the Rush. The rookie lost an edge entering the Wichita zone, but was able to poke a loose rebound in while still on his backside for his third goal of the season. Then, with less than three minutes to go in the period, Faryna's hard work paid off again. Despite being outnumbered down low, the youngster muscled the puck to fellow rookie Jeff Lee who slid a centering pass to Damian Surma who rifled home his 12th goal of the season for the 2-0 advantage.
The second period was all Wichita, outshooting the Rush 13-4, and scoring three unanswered goals to take their first lead of the game. The first tally came from Flath who potted his 16th of the season with a snap shot from the slot set up by Matt Summers. At the 11:29 mark, Summers was allowed clear entry into the Rapid City zone while on the powerplay, sending a wrist shot from the left circle through the five-hole of Boron, evening the score. Two and a half minutes later, Neil Trimm capitalized on a breakaway, one-handing in a rebound that gave the Thunder the 3-2 lead and ending Boron's night.
The Thunder kept their foot on the gas, adding to their lead in the third. RG Flath added his second of the game on the powerplay, blasting one-timer from the slot to the top-left corner. Wichita made it five unanswered goals with a rebound goal from Andrew Martens who capped a 5-2 win for the Thunder.
