Clearwater Threshers News Release

The Clearwater Threshers suffered a pair of losses at Brevard County on Saturday evening, 1-0 and 7-0 .

Colin Kleven turned in a strong outing in game one, tossing a complete game in the loss. Kleven (5-9) permitted just one run on five hits, walking three and striking out six in six innings.

The right-hander has given the Threshers at least six frames in his last three outings, permitting two runs or less in each of them. Kleven has now lasted at least five innings in 17 consecutive starts.

The lone run of the ballgame came in the third inning.

Garrett Cooper led off by doubling to right. Brandon Macias then singled to left, and was thrown out trying to take second. Nathan Orf followed with a liner to right for an RBI single to put Brevard County on the board.

The Threshers (21-29) were held to just two hits against Manatees starter Hobbs Johnson (11-7). Anthony Phillips broke up Johnson's no-hit bid with a single in the sixth, and Brian Pointer added a base hit with two outs in the seventh.

The Manatees struck early in the nightcap, plating two runs in the first inning off Threshers starter Nic Hanson (0-2).

Brevard County (23-23) continued to tack on, as Orf added a two-run double in the second and Voctor Roach homered in the third to make it 5-0.

Roache's two-run single in the fourth inning off Lino Martinez capped the scoring, extending the Manatees' lead to 7-0.

Meanwhile, Damien Magnifico (8-6) kept the Clearwater bats in check, shutting out the Threshers on five hits.

Clearwater put runners at the corners in the seventh inning, after Pointer doubled to left and Harold Martinez singled. Magnifico then induced a flyout and a fielder's choice groundout before Phillips walked to load the bases, but Magnifico struck out Roman Quinn to end the game.

Clearwater will look to bounce back on Sunday, as Miguel Nunez (5-7) takes the hill for game three of a four-game set with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
