 Clearwater Threshers News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - Daniel Brito collected his first hit as a member of the Clearwater Threshers, but Bradenton pulled out a walk-off win in the series finale as Clearwater fell 3-2 in 10 innings at LECOM Park on Sunday afternoon.
Clearwater (25-16) (57-52) now sits three games back of the Dunedin Blue Jays in the FSL North with 28 games remaining.
The Marauders (15-25) (50-55) grabbed a run in the bottom of the first, after a hit batter and two singles filled the bases with nobody out against Alejandro Requena.
Requena managed to limit the damage, as he induced a double play from Hunter Owen. That pushed home a run, but Requena quickly got Mitchell Tolman out looking on a fastball to end the inning.
Clearwater brought it even in similar fashion in the fourth.
Brito opened the frame with a liner over short, his first hit as a Thresher, and a Raul Rivas infield hit followed by a walk to Arquimedes Gamboa loaded the bases. Edgar Cabral hit into a double play to push home Brito and tie the game at one.
Requena exited after five solid innings, having permitted just one run on four hits and a pair of walks. He hit two batters and struck out four in the no-decision.
Trevor Bettencourt entered in the sixth and set the side down in order, striking out one. The right-hander was added to Clearwater on Saturday as he works his way back from an elbow injury. Bettencourt was placed on the Reading Fighting Phils disabled list on May 9th.
Jonathan Hennigan tossed up two scoreless frames, and Jakob Hernandez (3-2) worked around a two-out double in the ninth to force extra innings.
With Cabral starting at second as the free runner in the 10th, Luke Williams brought him in by driving a double to the left-centerfield gap to break the Threshers ahead, 2-1.
Bradenton quickly advanced its free runner to third with a grounder to the right side from Adrian Valerio in the bottom half, and Albert Baur walked to put the winning run on. Owen singled over second, scoring Oliva with the tying run, and after Tolman was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Bligh Madris' single to center brought home Baur with the game-winner.
The road trip will continue on Monday as the Threshers head to Tampa for a doubleheader with the Tarpons, starting at 5 p.m. Mauricio Llovera takes the hill against Garrett Whitlock in game one, and McKenzie Mills will start game two against Deivi Garcia. Both contests will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com, beginning at 4:45 p.m.
