
Threshers Fail to Clinch in 6-1 Loss to Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, FL - Despite putting the tying run on third in the fifth, the Clearwater Threshers (39-15) took their first loss of the series in a 6-1 defeat against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (29-26) on Friday night at Hammond Stadium. The Threshers look to clinch a playoff berth on Saturday night in Fort Myers.
Fort Myers started off the scoring for the first time this series, plating two in the third inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Ricardo Rosario knocked the first pitch he saw in the fifth from Fort Myers starter Andrew Morris off the right field wall for a one-out triple. Emaarion Boyd reached on a fielder's choice to third, and an errant throw by Jorel Ortega allowed Rosario to score and cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Mighty Mussels struck back in the home half of the fifth with two more runs to extend their advantage to 4-1. They added a run in the sixth and seventh as well to close out their first win of the series, defeating the Threshers 6-1.
Jean Cabrera (2-3) allowed four runs on eleven hits with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings to take the loss. Seth Nightingale allowed one run on one hit with two walks in 0.2 innings. Eiberson Castellano allowed one run on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Daniel Harper tossed a 1-2-3 eighth with one strikeout.
The Threshers' magic number remains at one after the loss to second-place Fort Myers... Castellano and Harper combined to strike out four batters in their season debuts...Rosario recorded his first triple of the year in the fifth...Brito set his longest hitting streak of the season with a knock in his sixth-straight game...Dissin is hitting .500 (6-12) in his current four-game on-base streak...Rincon stole his tenth base of the season in the first...He has stolen three bases in three attempts this series...The Threshers continue their six-game series against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (Minnesota Twins, A) on Saturday, June 10th...
