
Three Transactions Solidify Lineup Before Camp Opens Next Week

GARY â The Gary SouthShore RailCats (Northern League) today announced a series of player transactions:
-- The RailCats purchased the contract of catcher Shaun Argento from Schaumburg (Northern League).
-- The RailCats signed infielder Ron Bush to a 2003 contract.
-- The RailCats put infielder Bobby Hill on waivers for the purpose of giving Hill his unconditional release. HILL batted .269 in 29 games with the RailCats last season.
ARGENTO, 27, was the Frontier League's all-star catcher in 2002. Argento batted .352 with 30 extra-base hits (20 doubles, 5 triples, 5 HR) and 62 RBI in 2002 for the Washington (Penn.) Wild Things. Argento ranked third in the frontier League in batting average, and second in the league in triples. Argento, a three-year Frontier League veteran, was also the league's all-star catcher in 2000 when he batted .305 for Canton. Argento attended New Mexico Highlands University and was a 36th round selection of the Atlanta Braves in the June 1999 draft, spending one season in the Atlanta farm system before being released and entering the independent ranks.
BUSH, 26, was acquired from Elmira (Northeast League) on October 28 with LHP Sean Brummett, LHP Justin Stine and the Northern League reversionary rights to RHP Matthew Pike and RHP Julio Perez for INF Carlos Rosario. Bush batted .272 â 2 HR â 37 RBI for Elmira last season, his third with Elmira. Bush, who played collegially at the College of William & Mary, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 32nd round of the June 1998 draft, and played two seasons in the Tigers' organization, winning the Midwest League championship in 1998 with the West Michigan Whitecaps.
The Gary SouthShore RailCats are the new, professional minor league baseball team serving northwest Indiana and Chicago's south suburbs. The RailCats play their inaugural home opener at RailCats Stadium on Memorial Day, May 26. RailCats spring training begins May 9.
