Three Things to Know: Nashville SC at Loudon United FC
September 27, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - The Boys in Gold are packing their suitcases for the last time in the 2019 regular season. Nashville SC heads to Leesburg, VA to take on Loudon United FC on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. CT in a crucial matchup with massive implications. If all of the pieces fall into place, Nashville could be in first place in the Eastern Conference by the end of the weekend. However, a loss could see the team fall out of home-field playoff favor.
Here are the three things to know about the match:
1) Watch Party at The Mainstay
The final watch party of the regular season is going down at The Mainstay (501 Main Street, Nashville, TN 37206) this Saturday starting at 6 p.m. CT. Enjoy food and drink specials including $5 appetizers and $1 off beers for all Nashville SC fans during the match. Club representatives will be in attendance with NSC giveaways including branded clear stadium bags that can be used for match day at Nissan Stadium (while supplies lasts). Plus, fans can enter to win two tickets to an upcoming home match.
2) Pushing for First
The Eastern Conference race is unprecedented and closer than ever before. The difference between the current first-place team and the fifth-place team is just one point, meaning the top-five ranking is ordered heavily by tie breakers. The tight race provides plenty of room for upsets and last-minute runs. Because the top of the standings is so tight, Nashville SC has the opportunity to leap into first place with a win this weekend. First-place New York Red Bulls II and second-place Indy Eleven have each dropped their last two results, leaving the door wide open for another team to claim one of the top spots. Three points on Saturday and losses or draws from other top five teams would boost Nashville to 58 points and into first place for the first time in club history.
3) Defensively Locked In
Nashville SC has proven to be one of the most defensively solid teams in the league. The team is third in the league in clean sheets with 13, just one away from tying Phoenix Rising FC and Pittsburgh Riverhounds FC for first. Nashville has allowed the second fewest number of goals, allowing only 25 in 30 matches. The only team with fewer is Indy Eleven who have allowed 23. In terms of on-field discipline, Nashville has the fewest number of yellow cards this season and the second fewest number of reds with just one. The team will be facing a Loudon side that has proven its ability to rack up goals against strong teams and has just seven fewer goals than Nashville despite winning only seven matches. Nashville's backline will be put to the test as Loudon will look to notch an upset heading into the final weeks of the season.
