Reno Ready for Rematch with Real Monarchs

Reno 1868 FC News Release

RENO, Nev. - Reno 1868 FC begins the final regular season home slate tomorrow against Real Monarchs SLC. Reno has already secured a playoff berth for the third time in club history, but is looking to clinch a home match with a top four finish. The boys in blue are still in the fight with Fresno FC for the second seed in the USL Western Conference. Reno fell 3-1 in Salt Lake City in April, the club's first loss of the season.

"We have four games left, we know we're in the postseason already, but we can't let our foot off the gas," said head coach Ian Russell. "We want to get home field advantage and have that second or third seed. Our fans deserve to watch a game at home."

After a four-match skid last month, Reno has won their last three matches including two huge road wins over Austin and New Mexico. The three-match win streak is the second longest this season, trailing a five-match streak from June 26 to July 24.

Real Monarchs fell last week, dropping a 3-1 road match to RGV. The club trails Orange County by just two points for the all-important fourth spot in the conference. The top four seeds are guaranteed a home playoff match, with the top two seeds playing the winners of two play-in matches between the 7-10 seeds.

Reno enters the match third in the west with 53 points and a 16-9-5 record. The win total is one short of the club record for a single season. Los Azules won 17 matches in 2017, the club's inaugural season. Real Monarchs enter with a 12-10-7 record, sitting sixth in the west with 43 points.

Reno is one win away from being the second team in USL history to win 50 matches before the end of its three seasons. Only FC Cincinnati has accomplished the feat, winning 51 in their first three seasons before moving to the MLS.

Kickoff is set for 5:45 p.m. PT from Greater Nevada Field, with the first 1,000 fans in attendance receiving a free 1868 soccer ball. Tickets are still available online at reno1868fc.com or the Greater Nevada Field box office. The match will be streamed online via ESPN+, and broadcast locally on Nevada Sports Net.
