Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

Vero Beach, FL- The Vero Beach Dodgers' magical ride continued Monday night as they came from behind with a three-run eighth to win their sixth straight game, 6-5 over the Sarasota Red Sox.

The Dodgers staked RHP Jonathan Broxton to a 3-0 lead after three innings, getting a pair in the second inning against LHP Juan Cedeno. 3B Andy LaRoche hit a solo homer and 1B Rod Van Buizen's RBI fielder's plated C Russell Martin, who had reached on an error.

The Dodgers would stretch the lead to 3-0 in the third when RF Brett Dowdy doubled to lead off the inning and came in to score on another fielder's choice. Broxton had allowed only three hits and a pair of walks through five innings, but left the game in the sixth without getting an out. LF Matt Murton tied the game with a three-run homer before 3B Alberto Concepcion Jr. gave Sarasota the lead with an RBI double.

Still trailing by the 5-3 margin into the bottom of the eighth, the Dodgers finally got to knuckleballer LHP Joe Rogers, who had handcuffed them for the previous three innings. Three walks and a hit batsman gave the Dodgers a run before CF Alex Requena's bases-loaded, two-RBI single down the right field line capped the rally and gave Vero Beach the 6-5 lead.

RHP Jumbo Diaz electrified the Vero Beach faithful, tossing a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save in as many appearances and helping RHP Clint Hosford to the victory.

The series wraps up Tuesday night at 7:00 PM as RHP Jarod Plummer (2-1, 3.22) squares off against RHP Luis Mendoza (4-5, 4.03) at Holman Stadium.
