Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

After going down 2-0 in two innings, the Jupiter bats woke up and the pitching staff shut down the Cardinals with a 5-2 victory.

Doing well to escape a three-hit 1st inning with just one run allowed, Jupiter starter Joseph O'Gara regrouped to strike out five and give up just three more hits over the next five innings. Ryan Tucker saved the seven-inning game with two strikeouts in a no-hit inning.

Jupiter started off well in the bottom of the 2nd inning, with Ben Lasater and Jake Smolinski getting into scoring position with no outs. Back-to-back strikeouts by Palm Beach starter Richard Castillo had the Hammerheads looking at potentially wasting their effort, but catcher Edward Rodriguez knocked a double to drive in both runners. Alfredo Lopez then lined a base hit to bring Rodriguez home with the go-ahead run.

Smolinski's second hit of the night was a double to lead off the 4th inning, with the left fielder getting to third on a Thomas Hickman single and scoring on Ryan Klosterman's sacrifice fly.

The same players would create Jupiter's final insurance run in the 6th inning, with Klosterman's double driving in Hickman.

Jupiter and Palm Beach continue their season-ending series Saturday at Roger Dean Stadium, with Robert Bono of the Hammerheads slated to take on Brett Zawacki of the Cardinals at 6:05 p.m.
