September 28, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. â The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed defenseman Cameron Breitkreuz (brite-krites) and forwards Justin Kot and Dan Buccella (boo-chell-uh), head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Breitkreuz, a 6-3, 208-pounder from Springside, Saskatchewan is entering his second season as a professional. Last season, he split time between the Blazers and three teams in the ECHL. In 57 games played between the four clubs, he recorded five points (2-3-5) and served 28 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Breitkreuz completed his eligibility in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Melville Millionaires and Estevan Bruins. The 2003 SJHL championship series Most Valuable Player scored 126 points (29-97-126) and served 260 penalty minutes in 183 games between the two clubs.
The 6-2, 200-pound Kot will be starting his second full season as a professional. Last season, Kot skated in 25 games before being sidelined with a season-ending injury. In those 25 games, he recorded eight points (2-6-8) and served 47 penalty minutes. Kot, a Weyburn, Sask. native, scored three points (2-1-3) and served 11 penalty minutes after joining the Blazers for 14 games late in the 2002-03 season.
Buccella skated last season with the Huntsville Channel Cats of the Southeastern Hockey League. In 56 games, the 6-1, 190-pounder recorded 49 points (25-24-49) and served 87 penalty minutes. The Woodbridge, Ontario native's 49 points was good for fifth on the Channel Cats in scoring while his 25 goals was good for fourth on that squad. Prior to turning pro, Buccella skated in parts of three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, splitting time between the Peterborough Petes and London Knights. In 70 games between those teams, he scored nine points (5-4-9) and served 205 penalty mintues.
"The signing of these three brings our roster closer to completion," said Sauter. "I think Cameron will play up to his potential this season and be a big part of our defense. A healthy Justin Kot gives us a player who can play the game along the boards and isn't afraid of the rough stuff. Dan Buccella has good size and good enough hands to produce almost 50 points last season. I look forward to seeing what he can offer our hockey club."
The addition of Breitkreuz, Kot and Buccella brings the number of players signed for the 2004-05 season to 24. The 2004-05 regular season begins at home against the Colorado Eagles on October 22 at 7:35 p.m.
NOTES: The Blazers will open their 13th training camp on Monday, October 11 at 10 a.m. at the Ford Center. Evening practices will begin at 7 p.m. Two-a-day practices will continue at the Ford Center through October 13. Admission to Blazers training camp is free.
