Three Mavericks' Signees Headed to NHL Affiliate Camp

Independence, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks announced Wednesday the Central Hockey League (CHL) team has three players competing in the Chicago Wolves' camp. Defensemen Colten Hayes, Anders Franzon and goaltender Shane Owen have been invited to the Wolves training camp. The Mavericks are affiliated with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League (AHL). Chicago is affiliated with the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL).

"This is a great opportunity for these young players to experience the speed and level of the American Hockey League. They have been competing hard this week and have really represented the Mavericks well," Hillman said. "All three players will be in the lineup tonight as the Wolves take on the Rockford IceHogs."

Last season, Hayes, 23 (1/31/90), played 10 games for the Fort Wayne Komets in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) prior to coming to the Mavericks. He totaled 9 points (1-89) in 18 games as a Maverick before finishing the season with the Stockton Thunder in the ECHL. In Stockton, Hayes tallied 8 points (2-68) in the last 33 games of the season. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defenseman played in a total of 48 games in the ECHL for the 2010-11 season, 39 with the Stockton Thunder and nine with the Reading Royals. He finished with 23 points (3-2023) and 90 penalty minutes. 21 of his 23 points came with Stockton where he finished third on the team in scoring among defensemen.

The last four seasons, Franzon, 24 (1/27/89), played at the University of Vermont. The 6-foot-3, 196 pound defenseman finished his college career with 24 points (4-2024) in 125 games. Prior to the University of Vermont, Franzon spent a season with the Nanaimo Clippers in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). He tallied 20 points (8-1220) in 58 games.

Owen, 23 (6/4/90), is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound goaltender from Markham, Ontario. Owen led Moncton to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Championship (QMJHL) and 2010 Memorial Cup going 14-3-0 with 2.12 Goals Against Average (GAA) and .925 save percentage in 18 games.
