Three IceHogs All-Stars raise over $1,500 with jersey auction
March 3, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs All-Star skaters J.F. Dufour, J.C. Ruid and Nathan Lutz helped raise over $1,500 for the Ronald McDonald House and St. Judes Cancer Research Center. The three All-Stars put their All-Star jersey on the auction block, and generous IceHogs fans chipped in $1,506 for the three jerseys.
Each jersey was the actual game worn sweater, worn by Dufour, Ruid and Lutz during January's Pepsi All-Star Classic in Glens Falls, New York. The trio were three of six All-Star representatives from the IceHogs at the mid-season classic. The other All-Star participants from the Hogs included Steve Pelletier, Olivier Proulx and Michel Robinson.
In other IceHogs news, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced that the United Hockey League club has signed defenseman Serge Visegorodcevs (vit-Z-GORE-ott-sev) for the remainder of the 2004-05 season. The addition Visegorodcevs is much needed relief for a defensive group that has been hindered by call-ups (Tim Wedderburn and Nathan Lutz) and a pair of d-men that departed for Europe (Ryan Bonni and Cory Laylin).
Visegorodcevs, a Riga, Latvia native, is no stranger to Martinson. The 6-3 blue-liner played for Martinson for three seasons while suiting up for the San Diego Gulls (WCHL) from 1998-99 thru the 2000-01 season. Prior to joining the IceHogs, Visegorodcevs skated for the Asheville Aces and Jacksonville Barracudas of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
Also, Martinson announced Thursday that the club has traded rookie forward Mike Burgoyne to the Motor City Mechanics for future considerations. For Burgoyne, it marks his second stint with the Mechanics this season, as he was claimed off waivers by the IceHogs two weeks ago. Burgoyne played in four games for Rockford.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, March 9 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Mallards return to the MetroCentre for the first time in nearly three months. It's another PigOut Wednesday with the IceHogs and the rock station 104.9 FM, WXRX.
