Sylvain Daigle named Goaltender of the Month
March 3, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- The reigning Colonial Cup Champions of the United Hockey League, the current Central Division leading Muskegon Fury, in conjunction with the UHL, have announced today that Fury goaltender SYLVAIN DAIGLE has been acclaimed as SOUTHERN SPORTS SUPPLY / UHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH for February 2005.
In his 9th pro campaign and his fifth with the Fury, DAIGLE, 28, brilliantly backstopped his Muskegon squad through an extraordinary second month of the calendar year in which "Team Title" registered a supreme record of 13(9-2-2), culminating February with a magnificent 11-games' undefeated streak at 11(9-0-2). In the process, the "Furious Ones" have extended their leadership atop the Central Division standings to 4-points on an overall record of 60(38-15-7)totaling 83-points as Muskegon trails Eastern Division pace-setting Adirondack 60(39-15-6)84 by a scant single point for the Tarry Cup league-lead.
The past month, Daigle seemed to sprout rubber limbs on demand in flashing his lustrous leather larceny. Performing in 9 of his club's 13-games, the Ste. Hyacinthe, PQ native posted a superb record of 9(7-2-0), grudgingly surrendering a mere 15-GA in 518-minutes of action while rebuking 243 of 258-shots. For the month, the "Sly-Guy" earned a stingy and stellar 1.74 GAA, 1-shutout and a .942 SPCT.
Daigle recently completed his standout month of February with a still-existing 7-games' winning streak; 7(7-0-0). In this current positive stretch, he has allotted a meager 10-GA for a GAA of a scintillating 1.49 and a SPCT .954. In one stretch, he was hailed the game's #1 Star in 4 of 5-games while being saluted as the #2 Star in the past Sunday matinee 4-2 triumph over Rockford.
Another of his many highlights and achievements for the month was his first shutout of the season on February 11th in a Muskegon 4-0 victory over Danbury. It was yet another historical moment in the star-studded goaltender's pro career as it represented his 8th Fury career shutout to tie him with Joe Dimaline for the most career shutouts in Fury franchise history.
The Fury two-time team MVP actually commenced the current campaign playing overseas in London before returning to Muskegon back on January 14th.
Since his second coming to "Titletown," the UHL playoffs' record-breaking, history-making MVP of the Fury's Colonial Cup III has distinguished himself, again, with an overall record of 14(10-4-0) with a GAA of a thrifty and nifty 1.96 and a SPCT of a league-best .934.
The Daigle honors today mark the second successive month in which a Fury player has captured a league-wide monthly award. Last month, the Fury's all-time premiere career cannoneer Robin Bouchard was acclaimed Sher-wood / UHL Player of the Month for January 2005.
The first-place Fury resume UHL league action Friday night when they travel to Kalamazoo to be hosted by the torrid second-place Kalamazoo Wings in a 7:30 pm face-off. The Fury's lone home appearance this weekend will be a Sunday 2:00 pm matinee against the Quad City Mallards at Walker Arena.
