Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-The Quad City Mallards announced today that former forward Mark McFarlane will be the second Mallards to have his jersey retired. The number-22 sweater of the Amherst, Nova Scotia native will be retired on April 2nd when the Mallards host Kalamazoo. McFarlane joins Kerry Toporowski as the only Mallards to have their numbers retired.

McFarlane joined the Mallards in 1996. During his six seasons in the Quad Cities, McFarlane won three Colonial Cups. He finished his professional career with the Mallards following the 2001-02 season. He ranks fifth on the team's All-Time Scoring List with 240 points (103 goals and 137 assists) in 393 Quad City games. He also ranks second on the team's All-Time Penalty Minute List with 1,246 penalty minutes.

During his first season as a Mallard, McFarlane recorded 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points with 207 penalty minutes. The team won the first of three Colonial Cup Championships in McFarlane's first year.

The Mallards repeated as UHL Champions in 1997-98 with McFarlane recording 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points with 186 penalty minutes. In 1998-99, McFarlane recorded career highs in goals (31), points (56) and penalty minutes (274) while leading the Mallards to an appearance in the United League's Colonial Cup Final.

McFarlane would go on to capture a third Colonial Cup with the Mallards in 2000-01. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound wing recorded 249 penalty minutes with 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points during the team's third championship run.

"Mark McFarlane was a consummate team player who embodied the spirit of our record-breaking teams," said Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield. "His goal and assist numbers do not accurately reflect what he meant to this franchise and to the community."

The Mallards continue their five-game road trip on Friday night at Motor City. Game time is 6:30 p.m. central time with a 6:05 p.m. First Capital Financial Pre-Game Show on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.
