Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Fort Worth- Three players from the Ft. Worth Brahmas will try and move up the professional hockey ladder this week as they will participate in training camp with American Hockey League teams. Left wing Chad Woollard and defenseman Adam Davis will be going to camp with the Utah Grizzlies in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rookie defenseman Lee Jacobson will skate in camp with the Chicago Wolves.

Utah is the top minor league affiliate for the Dallas Stars, while the Wolves are the number one farm team for the Atlanta Thrashers.

Woollard and Davis will depart Tuesday morning for the Grizzlies camp that will run through Sunday, September 29, 2002. Both players will take part in the week long on ice and off ice workouts and then potentially participate in the Grizzlies Black/White scrimmage on Saturday, September 28, 2002. Utah does not have any preseason games scheduled, therefore the Black/White scrimmage will be the only game situation for Woollard and Davis to play in.

For Woollard, who totaled 48 points (21G/27A) and 188 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Brahmas last season, the trip out west will be his second to Salt Lake City. He was called up to the Grizzlies for two games last December, picking up 5 penalty minutes and playing at an even rating in two games with Utah. This will be Woollard's first AHL training camp experience.

Davis will also be making his first appearance at an AHL training camp. The smooth skating blueliner enjoyed an outstanding rookie season with the Brahmas in 2001-02 as he played in all 64 of the team's regular season games and picked up 4 goals and 11 assists.

Jacobson, one of the Brahmas prize rookies this season, departed Monday morning for Chicago to take part in the Wolves training camp. For Jacobson, it will be his first foray into professional hockey after finishing up his junior career this past spring. Last year, he skated for the Texas Tornado of the NAHL, picking 5 goals, 7 assists, and 147 penalty minutes in 54 games played. Should he play well, there is an opportunity that Jacobson will participate in one of the three exhibition games that the Wolves have scheduled.

Brahmas head coach Todd Lalonde is excited about the opportunity that all three of his players will receive.

"Trying to move players up and get them promoted to the next level of hockey is the foundation of what I'm trying to do here in Ft. Worth. Woollard and Davis proved with their play last season that they deserve an opportunity at the AHL level. Jacobson has the size and the ability to compete for a roster spot in Chicago. I expect those players to represent themselves and the Brahmas in fine fashion this week," stated Lalonde.

Another player with Brahmas connections, defenseman Mike Tilson, who has played in 197 games over the last three seasons with Ft. Worth, will also be going to an AHL training camp. Tilson left Sunday to attend training camp with the Norfolk Admirals, the top affiliate for the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Brahmas will open their 2002-03 Training Camp on Monday, October 7th. After ten days of practice and one exhibition game, the Brahmas will open their second season in the CHL on Friday, October 18, with a road game at the Wichita Thunder. Ft. Worth's home opener is scheduled for November 2 at the FWCC at 7:30 p.m. against the Indianapolis Ice.
