
Ambler Fights his way to Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX: September 24, 2002 â The Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League are pleased to announce the signing of left winger Dave Ambler for the 2002/2003 season.
"He will come into camp looking to grab a spot as a grinder on our squad," said Cotton Kings head coach/director of hockey operations, Bill McDonald. "If he can show us some skills and some rough aggressiveness, then we can find a spot for Ambler."
Ambler, a 23 year-old native of Westport, Ontario, joins the âKings after splitting last season between the professional and semi-pro ranks. He began the season in camp with the Wheeling Nailers, who serve as the Pittsburgh Penguins East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate, before heading to the El Paso Buzzards. Ambler played in 9 games with the Buzzards collecting an assist and 45 penalty minutes. He also played in the elite Quebec Semi-Pro Hockey League (QSPHL) with the Laval Chiefs, where he grabbed a goal and an assist with 42 penalty minutes in 8 games.
The 6'1", 210-pound left winger began his junior career playing the 97/98 season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Barrie Colts, where he played 2 games. Ambler spent the remainder of his junior career playing in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League, splitting the 99/00 season with the Charlottetown Abbies and the Antigonish Bulldogs combining for 7 goals and 12 assists for 19 points and 274 penalty minutes in 41 games.
The third year pro turned professional with the Tupelo T-Rex of the WPHL in 00/01, where he tallied 3 goals and 3 assists in 64 games, and led the team in penalty minutes with 206 penalty minutes. He tied for third in the WPHL in major penalties (24) and ranked 9th in the league in penalty minutes. In his pro career, Ambler has 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 points in 73 games with 251 penalty minutes. Ambler has served as an opposition of the âKings in 4 games over his career and has an assist and 29 penalty minutes against Lubbock. He collected his career single-game high in penalty minutes against Lubbock last season on 2/2/02 with 24 penalty minutes.
