Indianapolis Ice News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that the team has signed forward Greg Olsen to a contract.

Olsen, 27, has been a two-year standout the past two seasons with the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League (UHL). He was a member of an Elmira squad last season that was UHL Eastern Conference Champions, before losing to Muskegon in the championship round.

He is coming off a well-rounded season as he was fourth on the Jackals in scoring with 46 points (20G, 26A) and third on the club in plus/minus (+21). He also gathered two shorthanded goals, three game-winners and 187 penalty minutes. He skated in 14 playoff games and notched four assists and 20 penalty minutes.

"Adding Greg to our club brings us a versatile player who can score between 20 and 30 goals while giving us more team toughness on the roster," said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae. "He is an "in your face" type of player who is not afraid to back up his actions on the ice."

The Calgary, Alberta native also put up huge numbers during his 2000-01 season with Elmira as he was fourth on the team in points (51), third in goals (32) and tied for the UHL-lead with seven game-winning goals. His three-year pro numbers which also includes his rookie season with El Paso of the former WPHL consist of 121 points (65G, 56A) and 354 penalty minutes in 181 career games.

In other news, the Ice has invited forward Lee Jenke, defenseman Matt Wilkins and goaltender Derek McKlusky to training camp.

Jenke was the top scorer last season for Milwaukee School of Engineering (Division III MCHA) with 29 points (12G, 17A) in 25 games, while Wilkins was the top defenseman for Bay County (Continental Junior Elite League) as he recorded 43 points (16G, 27A) and 371 penalty minutes in 51 games. McKlusky has spent the last two years as a netminder for the University of Ottawa and was 5-3-1 with a 2.54 GAA and .925 save percentage in ten games of action last season.

The Indianapolis Ice opens up its 15th season of hockey in the "Circle City" when the team hosts the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum. Training camp for the Icemen is slated to begin on Monday, October 7th.
