RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Jeremy Thorne pitched six strong innings and the Quakes took the series opener with a 6-2 win over the 66ers Wednesday night.

Thorne (1-5) scattered 5 hits and a walk while fanning 3 in his 6 frames for the win. The righthander limited Inland Empire to a solo home run from Jessie Mier to begin the third inning.

Josh Wall (1-5) yielded nine hits and lasted six innings for the 66ers, but allowed three of his four runs with two outs.

With the bases empty and two outs in the second, P.J. Phillips singled and scored on an RBI triple from Clay Fuller as the Quakes took a 1-0 lead.

After Mier's second homer of the year tied it in the top of the third, the Quakes regained the lead with two in the bottom half. A groundout from Hector Estrella plated Alberto Rosario who led off with a single and a two-out wild pitch from Wall sent Andrew Romine to the plate as the Quakes stretched the lead to 3-1.

In the fifth, a two-out RBI single from Efren Navarro scored Romine to make it 4-1 Quakes.

The 66ers (46-51) had few scoring opportunities and had three runners make outs on the bases, with Jaime Ortiz and Preston Mattingly caught stealing and Steve Caseres making the final out of the game after trying to stretch his deep RBI single into a double.

Trayvon Robinson went 2-for-3 with a walk and Caseres added two hits as well.

Romine, Navarro, Phillips and Rosario each had two hits for the Quakes (43-54).

The 66ers and Quakes resume hostilities Thursday at 7:05 p.m. with RHP Kyle Smit (NR) making his California League debut with LHP Alex Torres (8-3, 3.12) on the hill for Rancho Cucamonga. The game can be heard on KCAA 1050AM or ie66ers.com
