Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

MISSOULA, MONT - In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Missoula Osprey announced Wednesday the addition of 2018 second round pick Alek Thomas and 11th rounder Blaze Alexander. Thomas, an 18-year-old outfielder, and Alexander, an 18-year-old infielder, join the Osprey for the first time.

Thomas joins the Osprey after starting his career with the AZL D-backs, hitting .322 in 121 at-bats. The Chicago, Illinois native signed with the Diamondbacks after completing his prep career at Mount Carmel High School.

With their final pick on day one of the draft, the Diamondbacks selected their second high school prospect of the night in Thomas. In 131 at-bats during his senior season in high school, Thomas hit .420 with 10 home runs while stealing 14 bases. The former three-sport high school athlete is the son of White Sox strength coach Allen Thomas and was the top hitter for USA Baseball's gold-medal winning 18U National Team during the World Cup last fall. Thomas is ranked the sixth-best prospect in the Arizona farm system.

Also receiving the call to Missoula from the AZL is Alexander, who batted to the tune of a .359 average in 92 at-bats. Drafted in the 11th round out of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, Alexander has turned heads with his arms strength and contact at the plate.

The 18-year-old has strong bloodlines in baseball, as his father played in the Minor Leagues with the Cleveland Indians. MLB.com Jim Callis rated Alexander's arm as the strongest in this year's draft class. Alexander is rated as the 19th prospect in the Diamondbacks organization.

Missoula continues the 2018 season at home against Helena Wednesday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm. Tickets are available by visiting the MSO Hub at 140 N Higgins Ave or by calling 406-543-3300.
