Thom becomes voice of the Turfcats

Austin, TX - Thousands of fans packing the Travis County Exposition Center will hear a familiar voice yelling "Touchdown Turfcats" starting April 18.
The Austin Turfcats welcomed Berry Thom as game announcer for their inaugural season. Thom most recently worked as the announcer for the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League. He is known as the "Voice of the Austin Toros" and announces all home games at Austin Convention Center.
"I had heard through the grapevine about his qualities, and after hearing him call an Austin Toros game, I am even more impressed," said Ronald Oswalt, Turfcats vice-president/general manager. "I am so excited to have him on our team in 2009."
Thorn also serves as a guest speaker for local area youth functions including Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Central Texas and works as a producer for ESPN Radio in the capital city. In the past, he produced shows for Round Rock Express baseball games and ran soundboards for the Texas Rangers, Baylor Football, Texas Tech Football, and other sporting events in the area.
The Austin native graduated high school from Brentwood Christian School in 2000. Thom spent two and half years at Texas State University as a Mass Communications Major and graduated from CSB School of Broadcasting with a Broadcast Certification with a specialist on vocal production and radio.
"I am glad to be a part of the Turfcats organization," Thorn said. "It is going to be an amazing experience for the fans, players, staff and myself. Go Turfcats."
Thorn began sports announcing at Brentwood Christian for basketball games. He has also served his local community by being a master of ceremonies for Heart of Texas Barbershop Choir in San Marcos. He is currently a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church choir.
Thom currently lives in Pflugerville with his wife, Megan. The couple has three dogs: Fidget, Lucy and Neo.
