This Week for the Heat

November 18, 2002 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Harrisburg Heat News Release

Following a weekend off, the Heat returns to action this weekend with a pair of road games. On Friday, November 22 Harrisburg will travel to Cleveland to face Hector Marinaro and the Force for the first time this season at The Convo. Kickoff is set for 7:35 p.m. The Force and Heat enter the week tied for second in the MISL's Eastern Conference at 4-4.

The Heat will then fly to Dallas to take on the Sidekicks at Reunion Arena on Sunday, November 24 (7:05 p.m. EST). Harrisburg is 1-1 against the Sidekicks this year, having lost a 16-10 contest at Reunion Arena on October 12, and beating Dallas 18-14 in the club's home opener at the Farm Show Arena on November 2.

ODDS AND ENDS:

Two Heaters are easily within striking distance of significant milestones this weekend.

Defender Genoni Martinez, who has scored 17 points in his last seven games, needs only one point to hit 400 for his MISL career. Martinez scored 382 points in four previous MISL seasons (from 1996-2000) with the Wichita Wings, Philadelphia KiXX, and Detroit Rockers.

And if goalkeeper Doug Petras records a win in either of this weekend's games, he'll become the tenth netminder in league history to reach 100 wins for his career. Petras currently ranks behind Baltimore's Scott Hileman (117 wins) on the MISL's all-time wins list. Former Canton Invader, Buffalo Blizzard, and St. Louis Ambush goalkeeper Jamie Swanner is the league's all-time leader with 296 wins.

HEAT V.P. TO SUIT UP ON SATURDAY:

Heat Vice President of Soccer Operations Jim Pollihan will step out of the office and return to the turf this Saturday night at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore as the Blast honors the 1983-84 MISL Championship Blast team. Nearly every member of the '83-84 Blast team will be in attendance to take on a team comprised of local Baltimore players (at 5:30 p.m.), and the first 4,000 fans in the building will receive a free commemorative poster.

Baltimore went 34-14 in 1983-84 to capture the MISL's Eastern Division, two games ahead of the Pittsburgh Spirit. The Blast's Stan Stamenkovic led the league in scoring with 34 goals and 63 assists for 97 points in 46 games. Pollihan, who would later serve the Blast as a television personality and assistant coach before coming to Harrisburg in 1991, scored 2 goals and 9 points while accumulating 12 penalty minutes in 21 games for Baltimore that season - his last in the MISL.

He finished his six-year MISL career with 44 goals and 102 points in 185 career games. Including the '83-84 campaign, Pollihan earned two championship rings (the other coming with the New York Arrows in 1978-79), and appeared in two other championship series (in '79-80 with the Houston Summit and in '82-83 with the Blast).
