This Saturday: Steel to Host "The Eras Night"

GENEVA, IL - ...Ready for It? Put on your cardigan, cancel your illicit affairs, set aside your champaign problems for a night because tis the damn season to join the Chicago Steel (United States Hockey League) on Saturday, February 17, 2024 for "Chicago Steel: The Eras Night" presented by McCormick FONA when the Steel take on the Tri-City Storm at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva.

The Steel will be wearing special Eras-themed jerseys which will be auctioned online to benefit the Geneva Academic Foundation.

The cream-colored jerseys modeled after The Eras Tour t-shirts feature images from different eras of Chicago Steel hockey including championship moments, top players and other memories from the club's 24-year history.

The Taylor Swift-inspired sweaters include images familiar to Swifties far and wide such as snakes, a clock set to midnight, a red scarf, diamonds, cowboy boots and the face of the adorable Benjamin Button. Each of Taylor's album names is written in Delicate script on the sleeves and the jerseys feature "Chicago" and "Steel" friendship bracelets on each wrist.

Even the socks are an ode to the Reputation era outfit that Swift wears during the tour.

The Steel have experienced a Love Story with their fans since relocating to Chicagoland from Fargo-Moorhead in 2000, essentially telling North Dakota Look What You Made Me Do and We Are Never Getting Back Together. The club realized its Wildest Dreams, finishing the 2016-2017 season in Style by winning its first Clark Cup Championship. Four years later, the Steel were once again The Man, capping the 2020-2021 season with another Fearless run to the Clark Cup title.

The jerseys celebrate several Steel players who were selected in the NHL Draft including 2021 #1 overall selection Owen Power (Steel 2018-2020) who was told You Belong With Me by the Buffalo Sabres. Two years later, Adam Fantilli (Steel 2019-2021) was in a Lavender Haze after being chosen #3 overall by Columbus.

The Eras promotional night idea originated in a staff meeting last august at the end of a Cruel Summer following a tough loss in May in the Eastern Conference Final.

Rather than tolerate it, the Steel chose to Shake it Off, put aside the Bad Blood and play the role of Anti-Hero this season. The Steel are hopeful Karma will do its thing and restore the team to its rightful place in junior hockey as the last great american dynasty.

With a Blank Space on the team's promotional schedule for February 17, this idea became the 1. While the club is unable pinpoint a single Mastermind of the promotion, the organization has been Enchanted with the premise of a Taylor Swift-themed night for quite awhile.

"We wanted a promotion where fans could feel 22," said Steel President Dan Lehv. "If it doesn't work, Don't Blame Me. If you do, it's fine - my tears ricochet."

The game will feature songs from all of Taylor's eras, such as Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince, The Archer, willow, and Vigilante S&^t (editor's note: these were the songs that forced us to say I Knew You Were Trouble to incorporate into this press release). Additionally, special Chicago Steel friendship bracelets will be available for purchase on game night.

The special jerseys will be auctioned online from February 15-22, 2024 to allow fans to Long Live the event with bidding starting at $150 per sweater and all proceeds benefiting the Geneva Academic Foundation (GAF). This is the eighth consecutive season the Steel and McCormick FONA have teamed up to help raise money for GAF with Steel fans bidding over $47,000 on special jerseys during the past seven seasons.

For fans fearful that they won't be able to score tickets to the February 17 game, You Need to Calm Down. Tickets are on sale now starting at just $10 and all are welcome at the Fox Valley Ice Arena, especially those named betty and marjorie.
