Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (April 4)-A sigh of relief could be heard in the Mid-Cities Friday night as the Texas Brahmas narrowly defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2.
Bossier came out of the gates determined finishing their checks and peppering shots. But, it was a Anders Strome shot, the first shot on goal for the Brahmas, which found its way to the back of Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll's net at the 4:49 mark in the first. Blair Manning and Chris Thompson assisted on Strome's fourth goal of the playoffs to help him extend his postseason scoring streak to six games.
The Bossier offense continued to buzz in the opening period, testing Texas' netminder David Cacciola with 14 shots, but were not able to get on the scoreboard. The Mudbugs outshot the Brahmas 14-6.
The Brahmas powerplay has been a mystery for the Mudbugs as Texas came into the game with a powerplay goal in each of their eight victories over Bossier in the season. This remained true as Anders Strome tallied his second goal of the evening at the 17:58 mark in the second on the powerplay to put Texas up 2-0.
The third period was a tight one as the Mudbugs were able to get within one twice from a Joe Ori shorthanded goal and Tyrel Lucas goal. Brahmas forward Grant Jacobsen had Texas' third goal and game winner of the night on the powerplay.
In the end, despite being outshot 41-21, the Brahmas were able to come through and defeat the Mudbugs 3-2. Goaltender David Cacciola earned his third straight victory over Bossier to give Texas the 3-0 lead in the best of seven series.
The Brahmas will look for the sweep over the Mudbugs tomorrow night at the NYTEX Sports Centre at 7:05 PM. If Texas goes on to win, they will face the Colorado Eagles who finished their series with Youngstown.
