April 5, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions got out early and hung on late for a 5-4 victory on Friday night. The win evened the best-of-seven games Southern Conference Semifinals at two games.

Goals don't have to be pretty to count in the game of hockey. In the first period the Scorpions used hard work in front of the net to jump out to a two-goal lead. Dominic Osman tipped in a goal, his third of the playoffs 13 minutes into the opening frame. On the very next shift, Craig Macdonald threw the puck at the net and it found its way in.

The Scorpions grew their lead in the opening minute of the second period. Aaron MacInnis launched a bomb from the blue line. Arizona goaltender Marco Emond never saw it until after it was past him and into the net.

Arizona got on the board with a power play goal from Cory Urquhart. The Scorpions answered when Konrad Reeder finished a two-on-one breakaway goal at the 9:39 mark of the second period.

Mitch Stephens gave the Scorpions their biggest lead of the game at the 12:24 mark of the third period with a power play goal. At the time the Scorps grabbed a 5-1 lead, and it turned out they needed every bit of it.

Arizona closed the gap with flurry of late final period goals. Karl Sellan got credit for a goal at the 12:24. Jon Landry brought the game to a 5-3 margin with a power play goal three minutes later. Things got tight as Tyler Liebel scored on a breakaway with just under five minutes remaining in the third period.

Scorpions goaltender Andrew Martin stood tall making save after save and got help from his teammates, as players consistently sacrificed their bodies to block shifts. As the final horn sounded, the series is guaranteed to return to Prescott Valley on Monday.

Reeder finished the night with four points. That gives the second year player 40 career playoff points in a Scorpions jersey, most in organizational history.
