Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors concluded the weekend with a tilt against division rivals, the Barrie Colts, at home and were forced to swallow a tough loss this afternoon. Mississauga was defeated by the visitors 5-3, and the Majors record shifts to 35-25-1-2 on the season, as a result.
Barrie opened up the scoring in the 1st period with a goal coming from Kyle Clifford at 6:31. The lone assist had gone to Taylor Carnevale.
Mississauga was on fire in the 2nd period and got four goals of their own. William Wallén connected at 4:58 off of passes from Mike Pelech and Kale Kerbashian. Devante Smith-Pelly (power-play) and Kaspars Daugavins each scored at 8:26 and at 14:20 respectively to make it 4-1, heading into intermission. Cameron Gaunce, JP Anderson and Pelech provided the feeds.
But the Colts quickly came back in the 3rd period as Josh Brittain and Michael Sgarbossa each produced a marker at 9:08 and 15:13, respectively, to tie things up. Andrew Clouthier (2 assists), Sgarbossa and Kyle van de Bospoort were the helpers. Daniel Michalsky then wired a shot into the Majors net 30 seconds later to put the visitors ahead, 4-3. The sole assist went to Adam Payerl. Then, a tally by Stefan Della Rovere coming at 15:55 rounded out the frame as Carnevale and Kyle Clifford got the assists.
Anderson started in net for the Majors and made 29 saves, while Peter di Salvo turned aside 24 shots for the Colts. Mississauga went 1 for 3 on the power-play, while Barrie finished 0 for 4. The stars were Brittain (1st), Della Rovere (2nd) and Pelech (3rd).
