Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Barrie, ON The Mississauga St. Michael s Majors were in Barrie this evening for a match up with the Colts. It was the Majors final trip to the Molson Centre of the season, and Mississauga left on a high note, with a 5-3 victory.

The game started well for the Majors when Riley Brace opened up the scoring at 11:47. Brace s 12th goal of the season was assisted by Stuart Percy, and gave the Majors a 1-0 lead. The lead would not last though. At 14:03, Brandon Devlin took an innocent looking wrist shot from the point, which found its way into the back of the net. It was just the second goal of the season for Devlin and it tied the game, 1-1. Mark Scheifele had the assist. The period would end with the Majors outshooting Barrie 13-6.

The two teams combined for eight minor penalties in the second period four each. Two of those penalties resulted in powerplay goals. However it was not the first goal of the period. That goal came off the stick of Justin Shugg. Shugg s 28th goal of the season was assisted by Jordan Mayer and Percy, and put the Majors ahead 2-1. At 14:13, Steven Beyers took advantage of the man advantage while Maxim Kitsyn was serving a two minute minor for slashing. Beyers 18th goal of the season tied the game, 2-2. Barrie scored one more powerplay goal before the period ended. After Mika Partanen took a cross checking penalty at 14:35, Tanner Pearson scored his 11th of the season to give the Colts a 3-2 lead. Scheifele and Colin Behenna had the assists. That would be all the scoring in the second period as the Colts went to the locker room with a 3-2 lead, despite being outshot 32-14 over the first two periods.

In the third period, the Majors showed Barrie why they are ranked second in the CHL Top 10. Marc Cantin started the comeback when he tied the game at 4:02 with Kitsyn and Michael D Orazio getting the assists. Then, Casey Cizikas scored his 27th of the season at 8:24 to give the Majors a 4-3 lead. Gregg Sutch assisted on the go ahead goal. At 19:53, Shugg sealed the win for Mississauga with his second goal of the night. The powerplay goal was unassisted and polished off the Majors 5-3 victory.

JP Anderson came on in relief of Mickael Audette in the third period. Anderson faced just one shot, which he stopped as the Majors outshot Barrie 7-1 in the period, for a game total of 39-15. Audette made 11 saves on 14 shots in his two periods of play. John Chartrand made 34 saves on 39 shots, taking the loss for Barrie. The games three stars were Pearson (3rd), Cizikas (2nd) and Shugg (1st).
