Third Inning Boosts Clams Past Pilots

HAMPTON, VA - The Edenton Steamers collected a road win on Thursday night, taking down the Peninsula Pilots by a final score of 8-2. Edenton (10-2, 22-18) won its sixth straight, while Peninsula (8-6, 27-14) dropped its second straight to the Steamers.
Drew Faintich grabbed the win for the Teal and Black. Faintich (1-0) surrendered one run on two hits and one walk to one strikeout over two innings. Starter Ted Christie lasted 4.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits while walking one and fanning one.
Colt Harlow shouldered the loss for the Pilots. Harlow (0-1) hurled three innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits with one walk to four strikeouts.
Peninsula drew first blood in the second inning. Devin Mahoney slipped a ball between the wall and the scoreboard in left-center to put the Pilots up 1-0.
The Steamers responded quickly with a five-run third. Tyler Ammerman started the rally with a one-out walk, and three consecutive singles from Richie Cunningham, Trey Hair and Mitchell Price plated two runs and left two men on for Tony Rosselli. The Clams' right fielder crushed a ball to center to score a trio of runs and give Edenton a 5-1 advantage.
The Teal and Black extended that lead with a pair of runs in the fifth. Trey Hair led off the inning with a single, moving to second on a wild pitch. After back-to-back strikeouts, Aaron Aucker connected for another single to score Hair, moving to second on the throw home. Thatcher Coleman's single in the next at bat brought in Aucker to put the Steamers up 7-1.
The Pilots looked to rally in the bottom of the inning. After Kurt Sinnen led off with a walk, Joe Poduslenko singled, and a flyout in the next at bat moved Sinnen to third. Logan Augustine added a single to score Sinnen, but their momentum was halted with a double play to end the inning.
Another run in the sixth gave the Steamers an 8-2 lead they held into the ninth, and Sam Beattie finished off the game with the strikeouts to seal the victory for Edenton.
