Altoona Curve News Release
(ALTOONA, PA) â In 1939, Judy Garland's character in The Wizard of Oz, reminded us that "There's no place like home". Nearly 65 years later the Altoona Curve is bringing that motto to Blair County Ballpark.
In the midst of a franchise-record 10-game home losing skid, the Curve will begin celebrating the hopeful end of the streak with its "No Place Like Home" promotion set to begin next Friday, May 23rd, when the Curve opens a seven-game homestand at Blair County Ballpark against the Binghamton Mets (New York Mets' Double-A affiliate).
Among the highlights of the promotion will see the club give away several "Grand Prizes" to lucky fans on the night when the Curve's home losing streak finally comes to an end. If the streak comes to a close at 10 games on Friday, then the club will reward 10 lucky fans with 10 different top quality prizes, which will be announced prior to Friday. If the Curve fails to win on the first day of the homestand, then the promotion will carry over to the following dayâand so onâuntil the home losing skid comes to an end. For every game that the Curve loses, thus forcing the promotion to carry over, an extra grand prize will be added.
"We're excited about this season and this year's team and we know that we're going to win a lot of games here at Blair County Ballpark, and on the road," said Curve General Manager Todd Parnell. "This is another promotion that will be exciting for the fans and will continue to build excitement around the ballpark, plus everyone already knows that there's truly no place like OUR home and OUR fans."
More details regarding the Curve's "There's No Place Like Home" promotion will be announced throughout the week leading up to the opening of the homestand. Friday's contest is slated for 6:35 p.m. with gates to open at 5:30.
The Curve last won a home game on April 18th when it defeated the visiting Bowie Baysox, 4-0. Despite a 5-10 home record, Altoona has been the Eastern League's best road team so far this season, having posted a 13-9 mark away from Blair County Ballpark entering Friday's contest at Binghamton.
Tickets for all remaining Curve home games are available by calling or visiting the Curve Ticket Office weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fans wishing to purchase tickets over the phone can call (814) 943-5400 or toll-free at 1-877-99-CURVE.
