The Victory Project Launches Scholarships and Grants
May 23, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release
The Victory Project announced today the launch of a new program providing financial assistance for members of the soccer community across the Midwest through scholarship and grant opportunities as part of the charitable foundation's Soccer For All Kids platform.
The Victory Project will annually fulfill four Emerging Sports Leaders Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each for high school seniors with post-secondary education plans at a university, college, trade or vocational school whose lives have been impacted by the sport of soccer. The deadline to apply is July 15 and scholarship recipients will be notified by July 29.
The Victory Project will also accept applications on an ongoing basis for Soccer Assist Grants in the amount of $100 up to $2,500 for individuals, clubs and organizations who need funding to enable youth to participate in the sport of soccer. Grant funding may be used to pay for a wide range of eligible expenses - including club, league and tournament fees, as well as uniforms, equipment and transportation - targeted at enhancing access across an eight-state region.
The Emerging Sports Leaders Scholarships and Soccer Assist Grants will be open to applicants located in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Indiana and Michigan - all states currently served by Sporting Club Network Academy Affiliates.
"The Victory Project is extremely excited to launch this new program," said Sporting Kansas City Manager of Community Programs Chioma Atanmo, who was recently honored with the NextGen Leaders Award as one of 25 rising stars in Kansas City. "We've seen the positive impact playing soccer has on our communities, and we want to make sure we can help more kids play the game and continue their education."
The Victory Project was established by Sporting in 2013 to help children through all of life's challenges by uniting players, staff, fans and community partners across the Kansas City and Midwest regions. Through numerous events and initiatives, The Victory Project is dedicated to enhancing and enriching the lives of children battling cancer, providing special experiences and opportunities to children with disabilities and making the sport of soccer more accessible to children with limited financial resources.
