Saginaw Spirit News Release

The Kingston Frontenacs visited the Saginaw Spirit Saturday, February 1st at The Dow Event Center for Shocks and Saves Night with the home team taking a 4-2 comeback victory.

The first period brought out some very defensive play for the Spirit as they endured a number of Frontenac powerplays including a double minor. The Frontenacs scored a powerplay goal, in the last second of the period, off the stick of Spencer Watson.

The Spirit picked up their pace in the second period, gaining offensive momentum, and creating nearly twice the shots on goal as the previous period. However, the Frontenacs scored a fantastic goal by Spenser Watson from Henri Ikonen and Sam Bennett at 2:48. Both teams were deadlocked for the next 15 minutes of play until the Spirit broke through on a goal scored by Justin Sefton from Kristoff Kontos and Eric Locke.

The third period began on a Spirit power play goal at 6:43 as Kristoff Kontos found the back of the net from Justin Sefton and Jesse Graham to tie the game. With 1:48 left in the game, Cody Payne fired one into the net for the Spirit from Jimmy Lodge, gaining the one goal lead. The Frontenacs then pulled goalie Matt Mahalak, leading to the Spirits fourth unanswered goal scored by Dylan Sadowy at 18:51.
