ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, announced the signing of goaltender Kellen Briggs to a standard contract for the 2010-11 season.

The 27-year-old Briggs played the 2009-10 season abroad with the Dresden Ice Lions of Germany's second tier Bundesliga league. He finished the season 23-22-0 with five shutouts and a 2.81 goals against average over 46 games.

Briggs played 12 games with the Reign in the team's 2008-09 inaugural season. He achieved a 17-11-2 record with a 2.43 goals against average before moving to the Portland Pirates of the AHL where he was 7-5-0 with a 2.85 gaa in 12 games. The Colorado Springs, Colorado native played his rookie ECHL season with the Idaho Steelheads. In that 2007-08 campaign Briggs was 17-11-2 with a 2.36 gaa in 26 games and was selected to the ECHL National Conference All-Star Team.

Briggs had a storied career with the University of Minnesota from 2003-2007. He set a school record for freshmen with 25 wins in 2003-04 and was honored as the WCHA Rookie of the Year. He led the team to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2004-05. His Golden Gophers were the WCHA regular season and playoff champions in 2006-07. The skilled netminder still holds the records for most career wins (84), most career shutouts (13) and best career save percentage (2.43).

Prior to his collegiate career, Briggs played three season of junior hockey with the USHL Sioux Falls Stampede where he compiled a 57-45-5 record with a 3.50 gaa and .901 sv%. He also participated in the 2003 USHL All-Star game and led the league in minutes played (2,529) and saves (1,422) in 2002-03 season.

The Reign begins its third season, presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino, Saturday, October 23, 2010 against the Stockton Thunder at 7:00 PM.
