"The Predator" Returns To The Wild

December 12, 2008 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Alaska Wild News Release

The Alaska Wild have re-signed 2008 Wild Rookie Of The Year linebacker Joe "The Predator" Small. Small was an integral part of the Wild having the second ranked defense in the Intense Football League in 2008. Small was fourth on the Wild in tackles with 43, and also had 13 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 3 interceptions and most notably, a blocked field goal which he caught out of mid-air against the Odessa Roughnecks. Small was invited to tryout for the Tampa Bay Storm of the AFL this month, but was not 100% healthy. Small is known as "the predator' because his dreadlocks draw similarities to the creature from the "Predator" movies and also his menacing intuitiveness and play at the linebacker position. The Indoor Football League has instituted new defensive rules for the 2009 season, and linebackers are now required to be 5 yards off the line of scrimmage before the ball is snapped. Due to this new rule, Small will also be rotated in at the defensive end position, where he excelled during his time at Webber International University.

With Joe Small re-signing and DB Demarcus James re-signing, two superstar defensive players return to the Wild for 2009. James was an Intense Football League MVP candidate and Small was the Rookie of the Year for the Wild.
