San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX - Three unearned runs proved to be the difference on Thursday night at Foster Field as San Angelo lost to Edinburg 5-2. With the loss, the Colts ended up with a split over the Roadrunners after taking the first two games of the four-game set.

Edinburg began the scoring in the first by plating an unearned run. After shortstop Felix Molina reached on a fielding error by Colts' third baseman Jason Crosland. He would then score on a double by third baseman Wilson Batista to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.

San Angelo would then take the lead in the third on a bases-loaded two-run single by right-fielder Adam Hale and the Colts led 2-1.

Things stayed that way through the seventh, which included a 19 minute rain delay. But in the eighth, the Roadrunners scored two more unearned runs. With runners at the corners and one out, right-fielder Ambiorix Concepcion grounded a ball to Crosland at third. With second-baseman Wilmer Pino trying to score from third, Crosland overthrew the catcher Tyler Goodro, which allowed both Pino and Molina to score and make the score 3-2 Roadrunners.

Edinburg picked up two insurance runs, and their only two earned runs of the game, on a sac-fly by catcher Osiel Flores and an RBI single by Batista in the ninth to make the final tally 5-2.

Bastista led the way for Edinburg offensively by going 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Hale went 1-4 with two RBI to lead the Colts' attack, while second-baseman Mark Ramos chipped in by going 2-4 with a run scored.

Starter Mark DiBernardo (5-1) got the win for Edinburg after going seven innings, and allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out five. Chace Vacek (2-3) took the loss for San Angelo by allowing two unearned runs in one inning of work. Julio Castro (11)) pitched two hitless innings to pick up the save.

The loss ruined a tremendous effort by Colts starter Chandler Barnard who went seven innings, while allowing an unearned run on four hits.
