
Late-Inning Runs Give Roadrunners Split

SAN ANGELO, Texas---After a 20 minute rain delay the Edinburg Roadrunners scored four runs in the eighth and ninth innings to defeat the San Angelo Colts 5-2 Thursday night at Foster Field. The win gives the Roadrunners the series split with the Colts.
The Roadrunners (27-10) got on the board against Chandler Barnard in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly by Ambiorix Concepcion that allowed Felix Molina to score making it 1-0.
Edinburg starter Mark DiBernardo (5-1) allowed three straight hits to start the bottom of the third and Adam Hale followed with a two-run single making it 2-1 San Angelo (20-20).
Wilmer Pino started the top of the eighth with an infield single and then Molina was walked after four pitches. After a sacrifice bunt by Batista, Concepcion hit into a fielder's choice and the throw to the plate was wild which allowed Pino and Molina to score giving the Roadrunners the 3-2 lead.
DiBernardo retired 13 batters in a row before a fielding error allowed Ronnie Gaines to reach. Julio Castro came in and retired the side ending the Colts threat to keep the score 3-2.
In the top of the ninth, Robert Matlock was walked and then moved to third on an Alexis Hernandez single. Osiel Flores then hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Matlock to score. Pino reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second and third before coming into score on Batista's RBI single making it 5-2 Roadrunners.
Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his league leading 11th save of the season giving Edinburg the 5-2 victory.
The Roadrunners will host the Laredo Broncos for a four-game series starting Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Eric Montoya (6-1) is expected to face Santo Hernandez (4-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
