Broncos Bang out 11 Runs on 15 Hits, Sweep Double Header

The Broncos exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh to walk away with the 11-2 win in game two of the double header between the Thunder (14-25) and the Broncos (16-24).

After losing in walk off fashion in game one, the Broncos came alive at the plate for game two of the double header. LHP Brian Buchanan (4-1) for the Broncos faced off against RHP Raul Trevino (0-1) of the Thunder.

Laredo scored two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Jason Diaz started the game with a triple and came home to score on the Carlos Arroyo ground out to make it 1-0 Broncos. Two batters later Jonathan Cisneros hit an RBI single to bring home Kenny Gilbert to complete the scoring for the inning and give the Broncos the 2-0 lead.

The Thunder cut the Bronco lead in half in the bottom of the first on an RBI walk issued to Lamar Guy to make the score Broncos 2, Thunder 1.

In the top of the fourth the Broncos tacked on a run on three singles, the final of which brought home Nick Mahin to make the score 3-1 Broncos. Mike Murphy, signed by the Broncos after the fourth of July victory over San Angelo, picked up his first professional hit and RBI on the same swing of the bat for the Broncos.

The Broncos lengthened their lead in the top of the fifth. Kenny Gilbert tripled and Salvador Paniagua then walked. Al Gallagher decided to go to the bullpen and brought in RHP Hunter Haggerty (0-0). Haggerty gave up two RBI singles, one to Nick Mahin and one to D.J Dixon to push the lead to 5-1 Broncos.

In the top of the seventh inning, hanging on to the 5-1 lead the Broncos exploded. A sacrifice fly by Jonathan Cisneros brought home the first run to make the score 6-1 Broncos. Nick Mahin followed with an RBI single and the score was 7-1 Broncos. D.J Dixon picked up his second RBI of the game with a single to extend the lead to 8-1 Broncos. Ryan Flynn reached on an error and Mike Murphy walked to load the bases when Jason Diaz brought them all home with a three run double to make the lead 11-1 Broncos.

The Thunder added a run in the bottom of the seventh when Lamar Guy hit a single to score Levy Ventura but RHP Earl Oakes tightened down and ended the ball game; securing the 11-2 Bronco victory.

Buchanan pitched his arm off, going six innings and allowing one run on seven hits, he walked three and struck out five; earning his fourth win of the season.

The Broncos play one more against the Thunder in Robstown before heading to Edinburg to play the Road Runners in a four game series.
