Long Beach Armada News Release

James Guerrero, who spent less than a week with the Long Beach Armada is now on his way to the Modesto Nuts of the California League. He is the third member of the 2008 Armada to be acquired by a major league club in June, following C David Parrish (Rockies) and RHP Jerome Williams (Dodgers).

Guerrero, 23, was a sixth round draft pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2005 amateur draft after an outstanding collegiate career at San Diego State University. Starting in the New York - Penn League he moved up a rung each of his first three years and began this season in the High-A Florida State League for the Marlins. Off to a slow start, he was released in May and joined the Long Beach Armada in mid-June. With only a week of play for the Armada, he attracted the attention of Colorado scouts who recommended that the Rockies purchase his contract. He is on his way to the Rockies' High-A team in the California League, the Modesto Nuts, where he will join GBL Alum Chris Malone who the Rockies acquired from the Chico Outlaws in late May.

Guerrero is the 14th GBL player to be purchased by a major league organization in 2008.
