Miami FC News Release
MIAMI - The Miami FC continues its three-match road trip in San Francisco, Wednesday, after taking down Indy Eleven on the road with a resounding 3-0 victory. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. ET at Boxer Stadium.
Cream of the Crop Miami FC and the San Francisco Deltas currently occcupy the top two spots in the Fall Season Standings. Both teams are level on points, but the Deltas own the tiebreaker due to a slightly superior goal differential. Miami and San Francisco are far and away the two best teams in the NASL, combining for 114 points to this point in the season. That number alone is just one shy of the combined points total of the entire bottom half of the league (four teams).
Not Quite Close Encounters
The Orange and Blue and the Deltas have played each other four times, with the former owning a 2-1-1 series lead over the latter. Those matches have not been as close as it might seem consisdering both teams have easily been the two best teams in the league this season. Miami won the first matchup 7-0 and followed it up with a 3-1 win. The Deltas then battled out to a 1-1 draw before convincingly beating Miami 3-0 at Riccard Silva Stadium.Â
All bets are off as to how Wednesday's match will play out.
Well-Oiled Machine
Miami FC boasts the top offense in the NASL with 55 goals scored. That number is four goals shy of the NASL all-time record, which Miami might very well shatter with three matches left on the ledger. Miami has been able to tally so many goals because of its passing and finishing ability. Three Orange and Blue players rank in the top four in goals scored and five rank in the top seven in assists handed out.
Players to Watch
Stéfano Pinho has rampaged through NASL defenses this season and is showing no signs of slowing down. The Brazilian leads the league in goals scored comfortably, owning a four-goal edge over the next-closest player, Vincenzo Rennella, who has 11. His 18 total points (goals and assists) is tied for the most in the NASL, only matched by fellow forward Jaime Chávez. Pinho is coming off a two-goal performance in Indy, the first of which was a brilliantly worked interplay with Chávez. Speaking of Jaime Chávez, he continues to ravage defenses in a variety of ways. When he's not scoring, he's dishing out passes on scoring chances, as evidenced by his league-leading eight assists. Chávez provided the assist on both of Pinho's goals in the last match, and has now assisted on each of Pinho's last four goals.
After scoring nine goals over a six-match stretch, Chávez hasn't found the back of the net in four straight matches, but he has helped his teammates carry the burden with three assists during that period.
