The Joe to Host UVA and Marist Sunday

CHARLESTON, SC - Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Ball Park will host the University of Virginia for the final game of its three-game series against Marist College Sunday, February 22. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.

"With Mother Nature forcing the issues, we were lucky the schedules of everyone involved lined up and allowed this unique situation to happen," said General Manager Dave Echols. "We're happy to be able to help out a great brother to The Citadel, like the University of Virginia, in this special circumstance."

Due to recent and projected inclement weather in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Cavaliers' three-game series with Marist has shifted from Davenport Field, UVa's home park, to Charleston. Sunday's game is the only contest of the weekend stretch taking place at The Joe.

"We appreciate the help of The Citadel and the Charleston RiverDogs to help us make this happen on such short notice," Virginia head coach Brian O'Connor said. "We are excited to have the opportunity to play in such a first-class facility and look forward to coming to Charleston for a great weekend of college baseball."

Tickets can be purchased at the gates, which open at 10 a.m., for the 11 o'clock first pitch. Adult tickets are $6 and children tickets are $3.

The University of Virginia played for the 2014 National Championship, but fell in the three-game College World Series finals, 2-1, to Vanderbilt University. The last time a defending national champion played at The Joe was in March 2012 when the University of South Carolina Gamecocks defeated The Citadel Bulldogs, 7-3.

The Citadel Bulldogs return to action at The Joe on Saturday, February 21, where they will host the College of Charleston Cougars at 2 p.m.

The RiverDogs, the Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, begin their season on April 9 with a seven-game homestand that features the Lexington Legends (April 9-12) and the Augusta GreenJackets (April 13-15).
