In the first game of a week-end double header in downtown Cary, Charles Ward bested his "Player of the Week" performances from last week by scoring 23 points and adding 13 rebounds in a 133 - 115 win over the Birmingham (AL) Sabers (2 - 2). The game was close early with the Invasion (6 - 0) taking a 3-point lead at the half. The Invasion scored 42 points in the 3rd quarter to build a 14-point lead heading into into the fourth. The lead swelled to as many as 20 points late in the game. Seven Invasion players scored in double figures. Larry Williams, Jr. scored 31 points in the losing effort for the visiting Sabers.
The Invasion play next at home tomorrow, Sunday, May 29th against the Wilmington Sea Dawgs for "Volunteer Appreciation Night" at the Young Center in Cary. Tip-off is set for 5:00 with the doors opening at 4:30.
