July 3, 2022 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Victoria Generals News Release
The Generals had the opportunity to host the 2022 TCL All-Star Game at Riverside Stadium tonight. It was a free ticket night presented by City Mortgage Group. The festivities started with the Home Run Derby presented by Homewood Suites as five players from different TCL teams participated, but the hometown Generals own Adam Becker was crowned the Home Run Derby champion.
To get things started for team Stripes, Justin Williams, who plays for the Acadiana Cane Cutters, hit a solo home run. The Stripes also managed to get another run off of an RBI from another Cane Cutter Jacob Laprarie. Team Stars responded with a run of their own from an RBI by Rilan Quinones, who plays for the Seguin River Monsters.
Going into the top of the third inning, team Stripes was looking to extend their lead and they did just that as Matt Abshire, Cane Cutters catcher, hit an RBI single to extend their lead 3-1. Team Stars responded in the bottom of the third with a few runs of their own. Quinones hit a 2 run home run to get the Stars started, but they were not done yet as Elliot Hebert, who plays for the Seguin River Monsters, hit an RBI to help the Stars take the 4-3.
The Stars put up a great defensive effort in the top of the fourth as the Stripes went down in order. The bats were still hot at the plate for the Stars as they got a few more runs to extend their lead in the bottom of the fourth and fifth. Adam Becker hit an RBI and in the bottom of the fifth, Samuel Benjamin, who was hot at the plate tonight, hit an RBI double to extend the Stars lead 6-3.
The Stripes responded in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Cane Cutter Jarrett McDonals to decrease the Stars lead 6-4. Despite their defensive effort, it was not enough as the Stars brought in two more runs later in the ball game from a passed pitch and another RBI from Becker. It was all fun and games tonight for the All-Star Game, but the Stars took this one as the Stripes fell short 8-4.
The Generals will be back in action Tuesday night as they take on the Brazos Valley Bombers in Riverside on First Responders Night. All first responders and their families will be admitted to the game for free thanks to Detar Healthcare system. First pitch will be thrown at 7:05.
