Strong Island Sound News Release

Patchogue, NY- In December of 2005, the Strong Island Sound were experiencing the ups and downs that all teams do in their inaugural seasons. That month, they signed a 5'10" guard out of Wichita State that went by the nickname of 'Fridge,' and in only his second game with the team, Jerome Holman was the Sound's high scorer with 30 points in a 119-115 win over the Boston Frenzy.

That was a sign of things to come as Strong Island eventually went on a run all the way to the Final Four at the ABA's Great 8 Tournament in Rochester. He led the team in scoring in five of the next 20 games, which included an incredible 47 points in the playoff victory over the number-one ranked Indiana Alleycats. Things may have gone differently for the Sound in their next game if Holman didn't suffer a shoulder injury, which knocked him out of the 123-110 loss in the Final 4 contest against the Southern California Legends. For the 2005-06 season, Holman played in 21 games (12 starts), and averaged 20.8 points per game.

Following the ABA season, Holman joined the AND1 Mix Tape Tour and was known as "Circus" in that circuit. As an encore to his strong showing for the Sound, Holman promptly was one of the winners on the tour and further expanded the 'Legend of the Fridge.'

Holman is joining a squad that is currently in first place in the ABA's Blue North Division with a 4-2 record. They are on a three-game winning streak and will host two games this weekend at Suffolk Community College in Selden: Friday November 24th at 7:30 p.m. against the Maryland Nighthawks and Saturday November 25th at 7:00 p.m. against the Newark Express.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
