Bellingham Slam News Release
Bellingham, Wash. - Mike Parker led five Slam players in double figures with 25 points as the Bellingham Slam defeated the Beijing Olympians, 115-102, in an American Basketball Association game Tuesday at Whatcom Pavilion.
The Slam built a 60-34 halftime lead, then held on as they earned their first home win this season in three tries. Scott Freymond scored 23 points and notched eight assists for the Slam, and Jacob Stevenson scored 24 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Stevenson continued his torrid start that has seen him score at least 20 points in each of the first four games this season.
After shooting just 33 percent in the first half, Beijing came out in the second half, converting on 63 percent of their shots, including 9-of-15 from three point range. The Olympians, who never led in the game, whittled the Slam lead down to 14 three different times in the fourth quarter, but got no closer until Josh Murray closed out the scoring with a three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining.
Murray led the Olympians in scoring with 25 points and was followed closely by Jason Miller and former Seattle Supersonic Fred Vinson, who each scored 19. Huang Hai Bei added 15 points and seven rebounds for Beijing.
The same two teams do battle Wednesday night, with a 7 p.m. tip-off scheduled at Whatcom Pavilion. On Wednesday the Slam will be holding a holiday food drive, with any fan bringing a canned food item receving half-price admission to the game.
