Victoria Generals News Release
The Generals are coming off of a series sweep as they grabbed three wins against the Seguin River Monsters and were looking to continue their winning streak at Riverside Stadium as they took on the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Dad's Day at the Park and Free Ticket Night presented by Explore Victoria Texas.
The Cane Cutters took command of this game early leaving the Generals with a lot of catch-up work to do in order to comeback and get into the ballgame. In the top of the first inning, the Cane Cutters showed their presence at the plate hitting a pair of RBI's to give them a three run lead. The Generals came out of the inning not too unscaved as they ended the first with a double-play by the Generals third baseman Adam Becker. Shortly after, the Generals scored off of a RBI single from the shortstop Isiah Walker which left the score at 3-1 to end the first inning.
Despite the Generals defensive effort, the Cane Cutters were continuing to show their dominance. The Cane Cutters looked to extend their lead in the top of the second and they did as they gained two runs off of an RBI from the Cane Cutters right-fielder which made the score 5-1. The Generals could not respond until the bottom of the third as Walker hit his second RBI of the night to try and get the Generals going at the plate.
Going into the top of the fourth inning, the Cane Cutters were hot at the plate as they added quite a few runs to extend their already extensive lead. The Generals struggled to hold the Cane Cutters as they led 13-2. Despite the hefty lead, momentum was building as the Generals got on base and scored two runs off of passed pitches behind the plate which made the score 13-4. The Generals defense was holding strong for the duration of the ballgame, but at the plate, the Generals struggled to bring in any more runs, until the bottom of the seventh.
The bases were loaded for Generals right-fielder Samuel Tormos. With two outs, he hit a 2-run RBI to decrease the Cane Cutters lead 13-6. That was not quite enough as the Cane Cutters held them and got a few more runs under their sleeves and left Riverside with a 16-6 win.
The Generals are back in action tomorrow night at Riverside Stadium as they take on the Acadiana Cane Cutters and try to get redemption on Free Ticket Night presented by the University of Houston-Victoria. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
